About Me

I'm a 25 years old Italian girl, with the passion of sports, reading and travelling. Here you can find some suggestions about places I've been to, books I most liked and so on. Enjoy!

Reading

Here there is (following Sevegnini's suggestion) my top-ten favorite books... till today!

  • Matilda by Roald Dahl
  • The scapegoat by Daniel Pennac (and the first 3 books of the Maluassene series)
  • The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas
  • Germinal by Zola
  • Due di due by Andrea de Carlo
  • Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo by Christine F.
  • Surely you're joking Mr Feynman! by Dick Feynman
  • 1984 by Orwell
  • I ragazzi della via Pal by Ferenc Molnar
  • Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

As you can see, I'm quite eclectic... that's totally something about me!

Sports

I've always played some sports since I was... probably 4 or 5 years old. I practiced classical dance for ages, than I switched to other sports (swimming, tennis, karate-do), but my real love was (and is) basket. Unluckly I quitted it due to too many injures, but it still remains my favourite sport to play... and of course to watch, as long as you're watching the All star game (or similar). Nowadays, unluckly, I don't have a lot of time to practice sports, but still I go sometimes to the gym or running... indeed I run the SOLA competition last May here in Zurich and I hope to do it again next year (improving my time!).

Travelling & living

As I already mentioned before, I like travelling, getting in touch with new cultures and people, trying new food and listening to new languages... I know that getting really in touch with a new place requires a lot of time, that usually I don't have, living there, making friends and so on... but still I try to enjoy and learn something from every journey I take. Here there's a google map with the most interesting placese I've been to.

Of course you can travel a lot, but still the places you'll better know are those where you stop for a while. So, I can give you some suggestions about the cities where I've been living 'till now:

  • Brescia (North Italy): that's the city where I grew up and lived for 21 years. It's a quite, nice, full-of-story city next to the Lake of Garda, famous for its natural beauty and for its products, like wine and olive oil. If you are in the nearby, don't miss the city downtown (with ancient roman relicts), the medioeval castle and the Santa Giulia museum, which every year holds a different world-wide famous collection. Tipical dishes from this area are essentially meat: try the spiedo, the tagliata and/or the salmi'
  • Trieste (North-East Italy): although I've been living in this city for only 2 years, I'm deeply in love with it. It's a really beautiful, calm and imponent city next to the Adriatic see. In winter it can get quite cold when the Bora, a cold wind coming from the mountains, reaches up to 120 km/s, but the wheater is usually great thanks to the see. Despite the presence of the Adriatic see, the tipical dishes are not made by fish, but are more Austrian. Try the kren, a spices they use with meat, and don't miss the Osmiza in summer (small farms next to the city are open and you can eat and drink what they make for really cheap prices). If you want to visit the city, you must see the Miramare castle, Piazza Unita' d'Italia (especially at night) and the San Giusto Church. Last, try the coffee there: it's one of the best places in Italy for it. And they have literatly hundreds of different way to order it! If you are at the bar of the Economy department at the university, ask for a Capo in bi tanta special: it won't let you down.

Movies & TV shows

In the list of my the movies that most influenced me there is a special place for Don Camillo e Peppone, a commedy about the italian life after the II world war in a small town in North Italy. Speaking about old movies, no one should miss Casablanca, defenetly more than just a love story. In the last years, on the other hand, I really enjoyed Matrix (only the first!), Il petroliere and Grantorino.

I also like watching American sit comes (it's a nice way to both practice english and relax at the end of the day), between my favourite ones you can find: Battlestar Galactica (not to be missed if you like Science Fiction), Scrubs, The Big Bang Theory (that's tipical for physicists) and last but not least How I met Your mother
